The dye BDP 558/568 is characterized by a high extinction coefficient and a good quantum yield. This bright fluorophore is an alternative to the dyes .BDP 558/568 is well suited for two-photon fluorescence microscopy. It also has a relatively long fluorescence life and can therefore be used in fluorescence polarization measurements.
With BDP-558/568-tetrazine, fluorescent conjugates of proteins, nucleic acids and other biomolecules can be easily achieved by tetrazine trans-cycloocten ligation (TCO ligation). This reaction proceeds quickly in the absence of a metal catalyst.
